It is the perfect location if you wish to stay away from the tourist areas of Crete. If you like to explore, the villa is a great base from which to discover the unique natural environment of inland Crete. Explore villages, interact with the locals, find taverns with real Cretan cuisine and discover some totally isolated beaches!
Additionally, the well known village of Spili is around 30 minutes away. The picturesque mountain village has cafes, tavernas and a pretty square famous for its lion's head fountains. It is also well known for its handcrafted goods.
The town of Rethymno is within an hour's drive. Famous for its beautiful Venetian and Turkish Architecture, the old town is truly beautiful to explore. Rethymno Fortress stands as the proud protector of the town which is home to fabulous restaurants, shops, cafes and museums
For those interested in archeology, the Minoan palace of Phaestos (32kms), famous for the Phaestos disc, and summer palace of Agia Triada (32kms) are interesting sites to explore and still maintain their original integrity. A little further afield lies the archeological site of Gortyna, once an important city in Crete, especially during the Roman era.
